Dr. Ramsay serves as a member of the Baylor University Medical Center Board of Trustees and is past president of the International Liver Transplantation Society. In addition, Dr. Ramsay is the developer of the Ramsay Sedation Scale, a measurement designed for interpreting the depth of sedation for patients in the critical care unit. This scale has been adopted around the world.

A member of the Board of the Patient Safety Movement Foundation since its inception, Dr. Ramsay has been an active participant in the annual Patient Safety Summits. He received an award for his work on preventing opioid induced respiratory depression and has spoken ardently about patient safety both nationally and internationally. He is committed to making our hospitals the safest place for our patients and reducing preventable deaths to zero worldwide.

Dr. Ramsay has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles and numerous chapters in text books. He was a member of the Sedation Analgesia Guidelines Task Force of the Society of Critical Care Medicine that published the latest guidelines for Pain Anxiety and Delirium Management in the ICU.

As President of Baylor Scott & White Research Institute (BSWRI), Dr. Ramsay leads clinically relevant research efforts for Baylor Health Care System (BHCS). Since joining the organization, Dr. Ramsay has developed a successful infrastructure that has increased the number of clinical trials from 250 to more than 2,000 active trials today. He is currently involved in a number of clinical research projects for which he is the principal investigator.
