Professor Mike Grocott

Mike Grocott is the Professor of Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Southampton and an NIHR Senior Investigator. He is the UK NIHR Clinical Research Network national specialty lead for Anaesthesia, Perioperative Medicine and Pain and chairs the board of the National Institute of Academic Anaesthesia. He leads critical care research within the Southampton NIHR Biomedical Research Centre and serves as an adjunct professor of Anesthesiology at Duke University Medical Centre, NC.

Mike is an elected council member of the Royal College of Anaesthetists where he chairs the Education Training and Examinations Board and is the President of the Critical Care Medicine section of the Royal Society of Medicine. He served as founding director of the NIAA Health Services Research Centre (2010-2016) and founding chair of the National Emergency Laparotomy Audit (2011-2017) and leads the Xtreme-Everest Oxygen Research Consortium and co-chairs the Fit-4-Surgery research collaboration. He is the current chair of the UK National Adult Critical Care Data Group and serves on the scientific advisory board of the American Society of Enhanced Recovery (ASER).

Mike has authored/co-authored more than 240 scientific papers and been awarded over £20 million in research funding.
